What are the best free sites for backlinks?

I've recently decided to make a stronger effort to establish backlinks to my site. I'm wondering which sites you think offer the the strongest links. I'm assuming REW, Active Rain, Personal Blogs, and Trulia, are good bets, but what else do you recommend?

I just joined active rain yesterday. Ezinearticles.com, hubpages.com, and free directories are great places to pick up backlinks.

Theres not going to be an easy answer I'm afraid.

Here's the thing: if its easy to do, everyone knows about it and everyone else is doing it - then all you are doing is leveling the playing field again to get even with what everyone else is doing. You aren't getting ahead.

You have to do more, and better than your competitors to get ahead of them because theres only 10 spots on the first page.


Side note: Trulia = sign up for your profile to get your link, and then stop. They are a competitor to you for SERPs. Creating content over there establishes them as the authority for your market - not you.


Best free sites for links: create real relationships with others. This will give you opportunities for guest authoring, working on group projects, etc. and they will not be easily acquired links that all your competitors are doing, giving you the ability to actually get ahead of them.

hubpages are nofollow unless you have a quality score I believe above 75.

Just to add to the trulia comments. In addition to the fact they are competitors the last I checked the everything besides the profile is a no follow.

It will be interested if the pr sculpting changes negatively affect those guys.

I was thinking the same thing. Those guys PR sculpt like crazy. Should be interesting to watch what they do.

trulia seems to have skated on thru with little resistance...since most did not know what was going on and assumed it was just another place to be known...wolf in sheep's clothing

I know that some of you will be in competition but Zillow is a good place as well.

No agent that is serious about ranking in their market should be on Zillow or Trulia.
