Does anyone here know how hard it is to become a DMOZ editor?
Has anyone here applied before?

I'm an editor over in some New Zealand cats.
I'd recommend finding an area of personal interest and applying for that category.
In my case I started with a sports category, then added greenbusting in a computing category before picking up my city and then later a real estate category. I also scraped the links from a couple of local website development sites who I knew don't submit to DMOZ and imported 400+ sites and edited them, moved them to their correct categories. What this taught me was where things go, how much broader the directory was than I realised etc. It also meant my early editing was focussed well away from any potential professional conflict.
So, if you're looking at applying find a category that's interesting, fun and needs an editor. Try to find one that has lots of activity, but with a hobby site focus, nota commercial focus. Carefully pick your 3 sites which go on your submission. Carefully review the description you'd give them. Do not apply for a real estate category. A new editor is unlikely to be given one.
If you get rejected the first time then reconsider how you applied. Maybe find a different category and try again.

Thanks for the insight, I had applied before, but based on your input will think about what other areas might be a good match.

Sarah,
How does a real estate site get into the DMOZ.
If you are looking for San Diego Real Estate or you want to view San Diego MLS listings (or at least that portion of the data feed that SANDICOR allows us to display on our websites) go to a local San Diego County real estate Agent's Site.
P.S. We Love Referrals!
Well there are guidelines to read but essentially...simple really...
- find the right category
- write a description as if you were any old web user who didn't give a stuff about your site
- forget about it
SD - you will find this link very helpful http://dmoz.org/guidelines/regional/realestate.html
Best of luck
Starting LEC 7 soon but it won't be called LEC 7 - LEC 2012 coming soon!
Thanks for the info sarahk!
