How to get past sales data?

Hi guys,

I'm developing a tool to analyse prices of houses sold in past couple of years in a given area.
Is there a website or api which can provide me with following data:
- addresses of houses sold
- their prices
- their sq footage, #bedrooms etc

I tried searching on net, couldn't find anything.

In many cases you can get that info from the county government. In SC, 46 out of 48 counties allow access to that info online. Start with the county in which you reside, see how they make it available to the public and experiment with that.

zillow also has an api that will give you some of that

As Joe said, Zillow does have an API to return this data, but we can't provide the data in bulk to 3rd parties. The data can only be shown in real time to consumers via the API program. Boston.com is the first custom live implementation if you're looking for an example of this can be implemented.

Steve is right that you can often access sales data from your local county office (usually the recorder's office), but the format will vary greatly from county to county. Or of course you can check with your MLS to see if they will provide you the data you need. There are also data providers who you sell that data in bulk - companies such as Onboard Informatics, Fidelity, First American, DataQuick, and Stewart Title.
