    Default Links between websites

I'm new here and am reading that some rules have changed... here I was kinda doing something I saw another company do, create a "family" of websites that would link to one another and to my main database.

Right now in the rough websites there's a unique website address for each area, and then when one clicks to search types of real estate one goes to the main website that I have had awhile with a database of listings.

Should I be doing this at all? Or should I move the sites to the main site and just have them as subdomains? Or if I keep them as individual sites what are the "rules" here I'm reading that even blogs can be problems and I created a blog to do the same...

I really want to do more website marketing and I can manage various sites if I know what I'm to be doing...

I would build up each website specific to niche and content of domain. Linking between websites shouldn't be a problem as long as each website is unique and offers users something of value.

I would agree that you can create multiple websites for niche areas and then link them together. Working on 3 way link set ups vs reciprocal is a better way to go though I think? Please anybody correct me if I am wrong on this! The key is still having unique content on each site though and then having a link campaign for each site ie getting external, unique links from a variety of different sites for each site you are creating. It would help to have an army of web programmers I think though

    How about the database?

I set up four sites related to various regions/areas I cover and then there's the ONE main site that has the database that searches all listings - now we have about 400 and are trying to do more

    So it's like this
1 - site 1 is the main site with database that I've had for awhile - it has all searches there by region, type, price, etc with info about my company
2- site 2 - a new site covers just one region, but I created this site to link "back" opening a new "window" to the old main site - for example one would click on this regional site for ranches - it would open a new window and go to the main website.... Also it opens new windows for specific brokers, etc, back to the main site - so basically most links go back to the main site.

Would it BEST to have the searches remain in the niche websites - meaning if they did a search it wouldn't open new links but the searches would remain in the frame of the new niche sites? A programmer started doing it this way then I told him no I wanted it to link to the other site????

Or would I create other pages with major info about the regions, towns, outside links to other things and keep the searches linking to the main site? I'm wanting my main site to move up search engines of course, but I too started paying per click in one of the niche areas for specific niche sites etc...

    3. There's four more sites newly created like this

    4. And another site that has info about my company, a newsletter we do, pages of the newsletter etc.

I can see what someone says about three way links, I could figure out more tricks like that - like on the newsletter site having links to the niche sites rather then just all back to the main site. Say someone wanted to click on a certain region of interest, have that link go to the niche site instead. Then the main site would have more links too created to the other sites which I don't have right now.

And then would one create a blog for each niche site too? I could do that, I like to write and could change out news there and market each individual site...

Thanks for any answers as I'm a bit lost...

Yes this "army" of web programmers idea is funny... I have a guy I found on a freelance site who's helped link my niche sites, me who knows "very basic" stuff, my assistant who is more creative then me at logos, and the main geek who set up the main search site that searches areas - plus I might get another freelancer to do some side scripts. Once set up though I can change the stories and I've figured out some things like how to set up my own templates and make I'd say half the changes so that saves money... I'm getting a bit addicted to this though - does that happen? It's fun to stay up at crazy hours in pj's figuring out this geek stuff...

    Correct.

    A - B - C links are better than A - B.

just make sure they are all not hosted on the same server or Google will figure it out and the links will be down graded and lose effectiveness.

You can also use free wordpress blogs and blogger blogs plus some squidoo lenses to get links from other domains without the hosting or domain name cost.
