I just started using service magic, and have found it to be a very expensive joke.........
I pay 199.99 a month for up to 10 real-estate leads. The leads are terrible !! I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for their service. I have called and complained several times about the quality of the leads but I think they are so use to hearing this that they have a reheased answer for everything The only thing this company cares about is collecting your monthly fee every month. Hope I can use this as a tax loss because this is the only thing you will ever get out of this company.......

Yep, you should have done a search on REW first. I just mentioned Service Magic in a reply recently. Waste of money, although I was involved when they charged per lead. I don't think I ever purchased one through them.

I did purchase one through Realty Now (I think) & it was completely bogus. They did refund my money, though, as it was also set up that you paid for individual leads. I think most of them went to a monthly fee & I was not interested.

I did waste a lot of money with Homegain, however. Never again!
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

I agree, HG and SM have at least $1,000 on my money and I loathe their mantra and especially Craig at SM...but if he calls you, don't let him talk you into anything...this guy could sell blue to a cop!

As the Technologist in an office of over 110 agents, I see the scams come and go. Here are a few typical Q&As that I often get/give. Hope they help...

Q: Should I deal with XYZ lead gen company?
A: It is more cost effective to PPC them yourself. What they are doing is generating leads, selling them to you and then taking that money and continuing to promote their website--when you could take the proceeds and push your OWN brand...

Q: Some of my folks signed up a long time ago with lead gen companies and get them on a referral fee basis. What about that?
A: It is a Faustian deal (dealin' w/ the devil.- for those not familiar with Faust!) At the end of the day, they are still promoting THEIR brand and not YOURS. HOWEVER, if you are in a cash flow bind and have NO pipeline right now, then maybe you need to think about it. Depends how bad you need it and whether you have the jack to spend on PPC. Either way, use the lead gens to generate the $$$ you need to do some real internet lead gen of your own and then drop them....and DO NOT spend money up front on these guys.

Remember the adage--Man with Experience meets Man with Money. When they do business, Man with Experience leaves with Money and Man with Money leaves with the Experience.

As we'd already gone through a spendy time comittment with another worthless "lead" company, House Values, we repeatedly told their service reps that we would only take their proffered service for a fixed, 30 day duration. After receiving and processiong all of those BS leads, we emphaticly told them we wanted NO MORE! Somehow they slipped in one or two more "leads" than we'd signed up before we got them to shut this crock of crap off. Do you know what those sweeties did? Even though we'd told them by phone and email, no less, that we in no way wanted an ongoing agreement past what we'd agreed to as our trial period, they dunned us for another month's payment. This worthless bunch of scam artists went on to introduce our "bill" with some debt collectin agency. By this time, what it cost us to learn just what a totally worthless crock of crap Service Magic was, we'd thrown some more money away to get out of their clutches. Our advice to Realtors, don't sit home waiting for the phone to ring but DO exercise the 3 foot rule. We've also found that, at least for us, that modest but consistent newspaper advertisement still reaches the most potential customers. AVOID SUCH SCAMMERS AS SERVICE MAGIC LIKE YOU WOULD AIDS!

Tried Service magic and some other service a few years back and not worth crap.

Best way to get leads (not in order)
-PPC (dont have to spend top dollar , top 10 ranking get's lead)
-from listing (do open house for the sole purpose of generating leads)
-send clients notes asking for leads
    -Door Knocking
-Thinking of Door Hangers (anyone doing this?)
