    Default The "Swap and Drop" Method

    Once I learned this simple method of building my business paying for marketing campaigns was over!

    Everybody can and should use something similar to this simple method.

    It does not matter what business you are in!

    It works for all businesses!

    It works for Real Estate Agents!

    It works for Insurance Agents, Financial Planners, Personal Trainers, Hair Stylists. Party Plan people, Car Salesmen, Lawyers, Doctors, Dentists, Chiropractors, Carpet Stores, Mortgage Brokers, Home Improvement companies, and I can go on and on!

    This method works for any business that has customers and needs more customers!

    Here is how it works....

    Every time I meet somebody, whether I already know them or not, I will ask them about themselves!

    If I know them, I will ask how things are going in their business.

    If I don't know them I will ask them, I will eventually ask them what they do for a living.

    Guess what they will do?

    After they tell them about themselves, they will ask me how I have been or what I do for a living.

    I will quickly tell them in a concise way about my business.

    Once I tell them, I will stop talking or change the subject!

    They may ask for more information, If they do,,I quickly answer and continue the conversation.

    Never do I ask them to buy anything, do business with me and never do I go into a recruiting presentation!

    When we part, I will ask them for a "few" of their business cards and say " I like to have business cards of everybody I meet."

    When they give me their cards, I give them a couple of mine. I do not say anything. I just hand them my cards!

    Now the Fun Begins....

    As soon as I get home, I enter their information in my "Contact Manager".

    I then send them a " Nice Meeting You" or " Nice Seeing You Again" handwritten card.

    I do not send them any propaganda about my business nor do I talk about my business in any way.

    Do not send on company letterhead and Never send more business cards. Remember they already know what you do!

    Often they will call and thank me for the card.

    I will make a note in my contact manager to send them another personal card in 4 or 5 weeks.

    This card will just be " I was thinking of you" type message. Again handwritten and nothing about my business.

    Usually you will get a call from them thanking you for the card.

    At this point I will end the conversation by saying " By the way Joe, I like sending my friends birthday cards to my friends, what is your birthday?"

    I now enter their birthday in my contact manager. I will never miss sending them a birthday card.

    I will then make a note in the contact manager to send them another card in 4 or 5 weeks.

    This process is continued with everybody I meet.

    My goal is about 2-5 new contacts each day, Sometimes if I am at an event, I will meet many new people.

    At the end of just a couple months you should have hundreds of new people that will know and remember you....and they will remember what you do!

    Before long people will be calling you about the business you are in and actually interested in your product or service.

    I know you are thinking that this is difficult to implement...

    It is not. You can automate this whole process so you can complete the process in just a few minutes each day!

    Again, it does not matter what business you are promoting because what you are promoting is your greatest asset...You!

    By the way, I'd like you to be my friend. Can you tell me what you do for a living?

    Send me an e-card and your birthday and you will always get at least one birthday card!

    Thanks for the post Sean. Maybe after you share a few more useful tidbits, you might pick up some SendOutCards prospects & get to send them birthday cards too.

    I have come to a point in my life that I realize that it is people and personal relationships that "make the man"

    If you can truly just try to meet and connect with just a couple new people a day, you will have more friends than you can handle.

    What as great problem to have!

    Everybody likes meeting new people when there is no selling pressure.

    People hate to be sold but they love to buy.

    I'll go one step further and say that people want to choose their friends...they don't want others forcing themselves on them.

    Remember these things always!

    I hope you have had the opportunity to read my brief discription of the "Swap and Drop" Method to building any business. It works!

    For those of you that have an established client base, you have a major advantage. Your network is already built.

    It may have a weak foundation, but that can be fixed..here is how

    STOP send your client base anything that has to do with your company,newsletters, mortgage rates, press releases, Open House Notifications..

    Did you read correctly STOP all this stuff. Think of the money you will save.

    Immediately start sending personal, heartfelt messages,thinking of you, or any thing you can think of that your client is interested in.

    And..NEVER..EVER..miss sending birthday cards. Try and send them to everyone in the family, husband, wife, children, dogs, cats..you get the picture.

    If you must..Once a Year, and I mean once a year, you may want to send them a card from your business address with 3 or 4 of your "new" business cards and maybe a calander.

    A word about business cards. This is the one area you must never cut corners. This card should be very high quality and "MUST" have your picture on it. Other than those two things the front should be rather simple.

    On the back put something they can use everyday. My favorite is a "tip chart" for figuring out what to tip at restaurants.

    You should only give your clients 3 or 4 cards a year, either when you see them or at holiday season.

    Here is the KEY. Never say anything about business from here on out. These people know what you do!

    They get your heartfelt "real" cards free from solicitation. You are their friend.
    People buy from friends, right?

    I used to hit my lead database of 10k people once a month with a generic mailing. Now I send a few hundred short personal messages and get much better results.

    The results from personal notes, messages, and cards will outperform mass mailings 1000-1.

    Especially, in this day and age of the internet and email.

    People are so turned off by any type of email that often they delete the ones they wanted to read.

    If every agent sent personal birthday cards to every one in each family, including pets, their referrals would go through the roof.

    They should send a few other cards to each family as well...like "Happy 4th of July" or " Enjoy the Labor Day Weekend".

    These are holidays that don't usually warrant cards..so you will be the only one.

    Of course Christmas is important as well. This is the one time each year that a card from your company is warranted.

    Because they are receiving so many other personal cards from friends and family at this time, take the opportunity to send a professional company sponsored card and maybe a nice calender.

    This should be the only card or anything for that matter that has anything to do with business.

    I am curious as to the different ways agents across the country are working their client and prospect base. Can some of you guys enlighten me?

    I know in my area the very top agents actually spend an hour or two a day writing personal notes.

    I also see a lot of agents wasting a lot of money on propaganda marketing..like newsletters, open house postcards etc.

    Most of this stuff is a complete waste of money in my opinion.
