Default REW website blog vs REW blog

How many of you who have REW sites with a built in blog also have a seperate REW blog? Do you have any opinions on the SEO value of one over the other?

Use the REW Blog (not on your site) to build "traffic" to your site.

Use your onsite blog to built "links" to your site.

    Hi John,
What matters is that you have SEO in place... whether sites or blogs, you have to have all the components of SEO in place. You need traffic coming to your blog or site, and you need backlinks pointing to your site.

The blog on your site is a good way to keep your pages fresh, and continue to build content for search engines to crawl. They are always happy with fresh quality content. The outside blogs are exactly what Morgan says, to build more traffic and backlinks to your site, which will help you in the SERP's. If you blog with great content on your site, people will link to it naturally as well, which is the best way to get links.

This is good to know. I had/have a blog that is part of my website. I changed it over to an outside blog and have not updated the site based blog.

So here is my question, what happens if I have both with duplicate entries? Do I get penalized or will that not apply since they are 2 different domain names?

If you blog the same things on both sites, only one site will be indexed, which could leave your on site or outside blog in search engine lala land. If you can, I would recommend writing unique content for both sites. I don't think you get penalized for the duplicate content, you just won't get indexed on both sites if you do it.

In addition posting what you post on the REW site onto another site or vice versa will cause your grief and is not within the REW TOS. Always use unique content.

For me this is very hard to manage because you are focus on two sites. Creating and optimizing a company website's blog is much easier than optimizing a company's website. The SEO value of both are not the same.

I am just starting a new RE blog to promote and pull traffic to my directory (you can see both in the signature). In your opinion, is it a good idea to do so?
