So are you guys saying that after the desk fee of 1200, if the commision is lets say 5%, all of that 5% is yours? I always thought there was a desk fee and the broker made a piece of the commision.
Can you guys recomend any places for good reading on the internet for a beginner?

By the way thanks so much for taking the time helping me out.

5% is the total commision, half will go to the listing agent and half to the buyers agent. With a 100% company yes you will get to keep 100% of the 2.5%. Side note: there are a ton of listings in Chicago that are not 2.5% co-op's and just about every listing has a minus fee so it would be 2.x% - $100 that you would be keeping all of.

As far as Internet reading is concerned read through real estate forums. It is like a great FAQ session. Just put Real Estate forum in google and read through many different forums and you will have more to read then any other source and when you are done with it come back to us. The reason we say why you might not be able to survive with a 100% commission is that, closing a deal is not an easy business especially for a rookie. You will need to make sure you have enough operating expenses going for you for the first few months and keep the clients going. Again take our opinions as opinions. At the end of the day you make the decision to be the next Bill Gates or be bankrupt.
