Default Questions on Blogging versus Article Writing

What is the difference in content? What is the best way to use or maximize each platform? When should you post a blog vs. an article? Should you allocate your resources more toward blogging or article writing? What is best for SEO?

    Thanks

Article writing is the most effective long term strategy for inbound links and search engine rankings. Posting to article directories is great because all the heavy duty SEO has already been done by the directories and you are just siphoning their traffic.

Search engines love blogs esp. wordpress.com, because of frequently updated content. They are always looking for fresh content. And every time you update your blog, it is viewed as fresh content by the search engines.

So it depends on what you love to do. If you love to write thoughtful articles once in a while and link them to your site, that is good enough.

But if you are more of a spontaneous writer, blogging about what happened over coffee, a blog is more suited.

I agree with samsonthomas and just wanted to add that with blogs, you set the writing standards while in writing articles (and submitting them to article directories) you have to abide to their standards.

The advantage of articles directories is in their authority and sometimes relevancy so there is a good chance that the articles will rank high in search engines and attract traffic and provide high value link.

It is always correct to know what benefits you want to achieve from the activity, then it is easier to decide where to put your effort.

It is always a good idea to have a nice blend of both. Personally, I get my posts listed on blogs using my main keywords in the SIG file and one keyword in the body of the post. Make sure the blogs you are posting on have the “follow” attribute and not the "nofollow". Both are very effective for SEO.

I prefer article marketing over blog postings.

Does the content you are writing about affect which of these is a better choice in each scenario?

This is an old thread but a good question non the less Jason ( Jason is my son by the way - for full disclosure).

I think that you want to post content that will not change very often in an article ( like: the history of Fort Benning in our area). On your blog you might want to post info that is currently happening (like: The 3rd ID is deploying from Fort Benning to Iraq this week).

I tend to look at article writing to be more academic and hard factual in nature. I would article write about the fact that school tax levy is or is not passing. I would blog about the potential impact that a levy would have on property values. To me a blog post has a certain level of personal input where an article is more cut and dry.

that makes sense so virtually choosing between the two is simply a matter of rather your informing people of something that doesn't change(article) or news that is always changing or more personal as alison stated(blog) that helps a lot thanks
