Just a quick question. If you have people consistantly link to your website from their tweets does that help your SEO efforts?

It's great for traffic but I am not sure it helps you rank any better. Unless there is something in the algorithm that monitors websites that get direct traffic and gives it a little weight. Good question - obviously I don't know the answer.

All tweets are nofollow links so the SEO benefit is minimal, but I agree with Marc in the fact that if you've got a good following on Twitter, it could generate good referral traffic.

Some of the plugins that allow you to post your tweets onto pages in Wordpress might be followed and indexed.

There are also a lot of Twitter/tweet based sites that rehash the tweets. Sometimes they'll be dofollow and or pick up your link in your profile. An example is a site like. Tweetmeme.com

I have never gotten the idea of Twitter. I would like to know more about the linking strategies associated with it, cause I see my competitor spam links to his websites with it.

Lisa if your competitor is spamming on twitter it is obvious they don't know how to effectively use twitter, I wouldn't worry about it too much and as Joel says don't follow this bad example.

Twitter is a good source to look for people who are on the same niche. Tweets really help in driving traffic more people who follow your tweets more your website gets visibility.
