Hi, I am interested in this sort of software. I have programmed a script that checks reciprical links, but you have to have a list of exact pages where the link is. If you could please send me some information also?

    Thanks

SEO elite can do it to some extent.. but make sure you check and recheck them... It does make mistakes...

Hello. The link management software mentioned in this thread appears to be a great solution for someone who wants to manage their linking directory it does not however answer lizsidoro's question.
"Can anyone recomend a free PHP script or a Windows desktop software that will crawl through multiple Link Partners website to find my link without specifying exact URL?"
With this software you must enter the reciprical URL when adding a site to your directory. Unless I am missing something there, this doesn't seem like it will help in this situation. The problem is ... I have a list of domanin names that is suppose to be linking back to a website. The only way that I can see finding out weather or not they are is to either manualy go to each of these sites, which could take forever. Or Index these sites using some sort of spider. Is all this really worth it? I'll keep looking for a solution.

The software listed by lizidoro unfortunately requires a linux server. That's a shame for those of on windows. It's hard to tell if it actually does site crawls or not. Perhaps it does and just starts its crawl at the location listed for the recip?

Does anyone actually have the skill to build a tool that could spider sites for promised reciprocal links?

Some people mentioned concerns about abusing bandwidth with a link partner spidering tool.

But here's my thought. If a tool could be made that would START its spidering search on the page that was promised for the reciprocal then it would go there...find the link...and report the link found and stop spidering. If it couldn't find the link where it had been promised to be hosted, then it would spider through the whole site in an honest effort to find the link. Once found it would remember the new location so it could start there next time.

In this way, only people who deserve to get spidered would get their bandwidth punished (people who dropped links or have dynamic link locations and don't update their partners).

To me...that seems fair. I'd rather get crawled than have a partner drop a link to me because they couldn't find their recip. I wonder if SEO-elite actually spiders the whole site everytime a check is done.

Nonetheless, what would be really sweet...would be a tool that could be driven by and report back to an asp or asp.net application. Of course people would want a php version too.

So is anyone smart enough to build this? (looks to webmaster among others)

Personally... if my link isn't on THE page they said it would be on, I don't want to go "looking" around their site to try to find it. I swapped links with them with the understanding of what page it would be on... and I made my determination on swapping links based on the quality of that page. If they move my link to another, maybe undesirable page, I don't want my link checking software to go looking for it... if it's not on the page it SHOULD be on, report back to me as the link is NOT there. Then I can choose if I want to contact the webmaster and ask why the link is now missing.

And... I would HATE for multiple people to be constently spidering my whole site. I use enough bandwidth without a bunch of run-away spiders. One bad spider can really ruin your day... and the server.
