    Default Link Bait Review

    Hey guys,

I wanted to get your feedback on this. I'm not looking to promote here (though, if you want to use it ); I purely want feedback of your thoughts. Alright, with that said, let's jump into it.

I built this over the weekend:

    http://www.incolo.com/mtm/

It's a countdown timer to the 12/1/09 cut off for the $8K Government credit with a basic contact form built into it. It's purpose is for other RE agents to let potential clients know about the ending of the $8K tax credit in a cool easy to contact way.

    Some basic questions:
    1. Is it useful?
    2. Does it look good?
    3. What would you do to make it better?

I welcome any and all feedback. Thanks everyone.

I think it will get you some links if you put effort into promoting it (more than just posting it to get it in front of REW that is )

Seriously though - my main issue, is the size of it - some realtors are into big and in your face calls to action, but others might prefer something a bit less conspicuous

Great idea! We built a cost of commuting calculator last summer when gas was over $4 a gallon & it went really viral. We still have home-page links as a result of that promotion.

I'd suggest creating several different sizes so people could choose one that fits their needs.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your feedback. I've gotten the size thing from others on other review forums I've asked help from.

@Joel - nice that's a good idea for LB. I'll have to keep thinking of good ideas that are a bit more viral.

Keep the feedback coming guys! I love it.

I realized something after I posted - this thing is a countdown widget - what happens after it expires? Rhetorical - those who posted it will remove it - that's what - I think the point of link bait is to build long term, valuable links - not short term traffic driving links no?

I really like it and have put it up on my site, if you don't mind. I don't have a whole lot of authority coming back to you, but at least it's a PR3 link back to your home page. I think it fits in great with the LEC2's. Yes, a tad big though.

@webmaster - yeah, for those who have left it up, it will turn into a contact form with sales copy. definitely something to think about the next time i build a widget.

@eastcoast - awesome man, I definitely don't mind at all. Thanks for the feedback too, let me know if you've got any more.

What do you think is best linking strategy for a website? Can you rate them in order?
