Default Multiple Websites vs One Website

I have multiple websites for my area and 70-80% of my business comes from the internet. Most of my leads come from one site. I started to build other sites so I did not have all of my eggs in one basket. My goal is to have 3-4 sites producing consistent leads. This way if any one of the sites fell out of the search engines for any reason my income would not take a huge hit. As it stands now, if my Sarasota site (ranks well in Google) dropped in the rankings my production and income would suffer.

I was wondering how many of you are juggling multiple websites? How many of you are just concentrating on one site?

Any opinions on having one site versus multiple? I will always have multiple sites but am thinking about consolidating a few.

You cant go wrong with a backup plan, that is if you have the time - one website can probuce more than some agents can handle (Not everyone is skilled in processing internet leads and managing a site) but I think its a great idea.

I have a few clients doing this - targeting either niche areas or different home niches

www.igotrealestate.com and www.lofts-of-minneapolis.com for instance. We get great traffic at the lofts site, and that is a perfect compliment to the main igot site.

As long as you are keeping your content unique, there is absolutely no problem from a SE perspective that I can foresee - and with more than one site, you are in a better position with regards to internet resources. You become a more appealing link partner, you have the option to test new practices on sites other than your main site for conversion or ranking and you can offer a different perspective on one site from the other and test what message works best for your market.

I was only concentrating on my small niche area based on one town with a population of about 65,000. Checking keywords on the available tools show just how few people are searching for such a specific area. I didn't know any better then.

Thanks to Salt River Media I expanded my horizons by offering a much broader area site. I'm getting more traffic from this newer site, even though it's a new site not showing in the top 100 in Google yet, than with my oldest niche area site that is on Google's first page.

Since moving to a new office I started another niche area based on where that office is located (a more popular area than my original area/site). This is very new. I'm also focusing on surrounding popular towns in this same site.

So I have a site covering a much larger area but most of the leads are in areas I don't actually work in. If I get a "live one" in a different area then I'll refer them. So I like having these multiple sites as I feel they cover all bases but a little differently. I didn't really think about the fact that if one site takes a dive there are back ups.
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

    Marc,

I ran across this thread because I am working on multiple sites also. What makes this easier is if the web capture forms and or database management is integrated.

This is not hard to do if you Ifame the web capture forms or have mutiple accounts on the same system, just costs more.

I started off with one site which was just a general catch-all site for my market area. Then I decided I was going to concentrate on a niche market so I built a second site. Building the second site has really paid off for me and I get tons more business from it.

    Webmistress Beachgal,

Is the pre-construction site the second site?

The real secret to working ANY market is making sure you have individual websites for EVERY sub-division you focus in. Check out all of these blogger and wp sites:

There is often an issue of quality over quantity.....for most one is better than multiple unless you do the ALL justice.
