Question Does G count run of site links?

Ok, so I am trading links with someone who has several sites, only one with RE. I asked about trading links to have mine on 6 of the pages of the RE site (pr5 each). He suggested possibly using other sites because it's been said that G doesn't look at all those links as high since they are site wide. He seems to think that link on non relevant pages (lawn mowing and pudding site) would be better then the link on the RE pages that are on the same domain. I need opinions here....

    Here is his quote
"To be perfectly honest, there has been lots of conjecture about
Google not crediting "run of site" links like you'd expect, so
the two links you have might be just as good as being on all the
    pages."

Anyone’s thoughts are appreciated as I have no basis for this in my SEO vocabulary.

Although there is a dimished return on sitewide links however it still counts more then just a single link, for instance if you had a sitewide on 1000 pages of a domain, it might be worth 1.5 the weight of one link (Not 1000 times) However links from irrelevent sites just dont make sense, again refer to Google, they tell you to ask yourself, is there any way you would swap links if search engines didnt exist ie are they relevant. You get the prize if you tell me what San Diego real estate has to do with Pudding

Although there are often "parts" of truth in rumors such as this people will always tell you what they think will land them the most benefit, its not always in your best interest thats why we have this place

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear (and somewhat expecting). Thank you for the advice and your opinion.

So if that guy was able to give you 2 links each from a different site they would indeed be more valuable than a sitewide on 1 site. (Assuming he can find you 2 sites that are adequately themed or at least an internal page that is adequately themed)

Sitewides do seem inefficient since you have a huge drain of PR from the donating site yet that same site gives less weight to the recipient than if you just built a second site to donate from.

How about this for a solution?
You have San Diego Realty Site and post one link.
Then you get some free geocity or angelfire page and link to it from your SD Realty site to feed it some PR.
You then donate one link from that free page and POOF you have provided the full value of 2 links without cluttering up your primary SD Realty site. It helps both the donor and recipient.

I wonder if G would have issues with the fact that it can follow from site A->B->C and realize that the free site (B) is just an extension of site A for linking purposes to C. That architecture is similar to the popular 3-way trade technique tho so I imagine it would fly.

wouldn't you drain pr each stop it has to make, so it would go from 5 to 4 (on the free site) then to 3 coming into my site?

What about a site wide link that places a different page of my site on each one?

    DomainwithPR5.com/page1.htm --- > MyDomain.com/page1.htm
    DomainwithPR5.com/page2.htm --- > MyDomain.com/page2.htm
    DomainwithPR5.com/page3.htm --- > MyDomain.com/page3.htm
    DomainwithPR5.com/page4.htm --- > MyDomain.com/page4.htm
    DomainwithPR5.com/page5.htm --- > MyDomain.com/page5.htm
And with my fabulous internal linking.. it would push some towards the front page?

Each page on this guys site is PR5. Any thoughts on that?

I am just trying to catch up to REW's 7...lol

create a "magic cycle" of PR links, a web ring, powerful web ring and be a part of it. That I think will boost you up!

I've wondered about this idea myself. Seems like it should work if the rule of "each page is considered a unique and separate entity" but I don't know if there's some kind of check that looks to see what domain the page is in and then cuts the return if found in the same domain...

Right, like if it noticed 5 different paged links going from domain A to Domain B then it would be considered the same as 5 links from "domainA/index" to "domainB/index"...

HAS ANYONE had the time or resources to try something like this between two sites with a control to notice any difference? Or does anyone know more about this?

I'm an agent in San Diego, and my wife owns a local coffee house, where she makes awesome homemade pudding. In my "about me" page, I talk about my wife, and her awesome pudding, which is linked to her coffee house website. Specifically, it's linked to her pudding page on her website.

How's that. What prize do I get?

Seriously, right now, there is no such thing as a relevant link having any benefit in the google SERPS. It's the way the web operates. Pages are linked to other pages in all sorts of ways.

"Relevancy" and "themes" are myths at the moment.
