    Default Anchor Text and Keywords

Can you influence your placement in the SERPS for a certain keyword by using anchor text alone? I started out by just trying to get my homepage to place for Boise Idaho Real Estate. My homepage and all links thus far are geared toward that keyphrase but now I am thinking that I would like to start working on Boise Real Estate as one of my phrases to place for too. Can I just start using Boise Real Estate as my anchor text and get some results without changing to much on my homepage? All feedback is appreciated.

My limited experience has been YES. You can change your anchor text and expect results without changing your HP. Though in some places, you may want to take the word Idaho out of the sentance on your HP. Just so you at least have it somewhere on your HP exactly in the order you have your new anchor text links phrased. Some even suggest, for multiple KW's, changing your anchor text on the links your request randomly. This way you'll get a good mix of back links.

Just my $0.02 though. I would wait to hear from others on this forum before implementing anything.

Yes I full agreed on that. You can do that with just backlinks.

Mixed backlinks are interesting since they'll certainly make you good at a lot of things but exceptional at nothing. If you are in a competitive niche, then you may find yourself ranked >20 at multiple phrases and not receiving the traffic you would get if you focused on one keyword phrase at a time. Once you get positioning with one you then start working on the next keyword phrase. Also, don't forget that once you canibalize a set of backlinks to cater to a new KWphrase, you will likely see an eventual decrease in the rankings for the original KWphrase.

Of course there are lots of KWphrases that include the same KWs so you will get a nice overlap even if you are shooting for several different phrases if they have a common thread amongst them.

Will I be alright by going after Boise Idaho Real Estate and Boise Real Estate since they are so similiar? Those are the only two that really matter in the market I am in from what I understand.

I have concerns about text links too. I have been mixing up my text links using the basic K/W phrase Las Vegas Real Estate.

For example, I will also use Liberty Realty – Las Vegas Real Estate and All Pro Realtors – Las Vegas Real Estate and Summerlin & Las Vegas Real Estate.

My question is, by retaining the main phrase Las Vegas Real Estate and adding to it, is the main phrase still picked up by Google, or are the new phrases replacing them entirely?

In other words in Google’s SERPs will only my elongated phrases be picked up, or does Google also parse the phrase and pick up on Las Vegas Real Estate?

Any feedback would be deeply appreciated.

This will annoy the crap out of any Californian webmasters but I was just checking my stats and I had a referrer come in from a google search for pacific american properties going to my links page for american properties and it has a link to my page labelled Pacific American Property sites and I'm positioned at #9

and on a search for canadian property my canadian page comes in at #8

Can't see how I'm getting away with that but I'm not complaining.

    I get several a day.

The best one today was a search for

name of realtor realty name of town

    e.g.

    Bill Smith realty Des Moines

    and I came No.1

Have mentioned this several times just to see if anyone can pick up why our test sites outrank the actual business site.

    BTW

we think we know, and that is the purpose of the project of which we are part.

    Hi VegasMack,

I am still relatively new at this, so take my opinion and perhaps add a grain of salt.?.

My opinion is Google will pick up on the L.V.R.E. part even if there are other words. My main KW's are wrapped into one anchor for text links. Phoenix Real Estate - Phoenix Homes though it may only be working for me since my website URL is www.PHOENIXHOMES.com. In essance, my anchor text is saying, Phoenix Real Estate and then naming my website.

That's my take on it. Anyone see it differently? Again, I am relatively new at being a webmaster, so more input would be appreciated. SEO Guy, got any thoughts on this?
