Have done so but without knowing the effect
I was wondering the same thing recently... does google give your site a bit of extra credit if you link to google or have their search or ads on your pages?
I have heard many people refer to this as "myth" yet many people continue to post links to google one way or another.
We had a link to them on our site too but decided to pull it eventually. Didn't notice any change.

It makes sense. You would think that google would want the free advertising on the sites that place high. I notice that realestatewebmasters has some google stuff on it. Maybe the SEO Super Stars here can offer some insight?

What you may want consider is the market value of the Google name and any cache that it may bring with some visitors to your site.
You might think about the google advertising.. on a new site you are guaranteed to get spidered within like 48 hours after you sign up...

I think google looks at my site more then I do (J/K)...
but I guess on the other sites it couldn't hurt to place their ads....
