Default New Website - Unconventional Approach

    Hello,

I have been working on a new website(s) it is up an running, but a long way from being compete. But it is near the stage of completion where I will be trying to get links to it.

There are actually 5 separate websites, but all with a common brand and navigation. So while a user will think they are on only one website, they will be actually on several. I did this thinking the power of keywords within the URL for different major topics. The sites are:

naplesfloridarealestatefl.com - For Naples Real Estate Information
naplesfloridafl.com - For Naples Florida Information
naplesrealtorflorida.com - For Listing information and information on Naples realtor
napleshotelflorida.com - For listing of hotels in Naples Florida
naplesrentalflorida.com - For information on Naples Rentals
naplesx2.com - This is the common brand, a user types that in the URL, and a 301 redirect takes them to the main site. As far as obtaining links, I expect it is better if the links go to the main site, vs naplesx2.

I had to use the word play in the URL, because the preferred order of the words were long taken, such as naples real estate .com. The common concern with long url names, or key words out of sequence, is that they are not easily memorable - naplesx2 solves that.

All these sites have different content from each other - just the common navigation. I don't know if there would be penalty with google on common nav. I would think not, as only a copy of links actually link the different sites.

Unlike many sites that are "search" centric (for good reason), my site is information centric.

I will soon be choosing an IDX provider, and might have a different URL for searches (same naplesx2 brand), and that site would be the search centric part.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tom,

I have found it beneficial to just have one MAIN site and having may a few smaller search sites. Keeping up with all of that content and web work will make you crazy unless you have a full team working with you. I was thinking (5 years ago) about doing the 8-10 website thing, started on it but quickly realized that I had no time left to do actual real estate. My 2 cents.

From both a time management and SEO optimizing perspective, I believe that one strong website is more effective than lots of smaller ones. I can't imagine trying to keep all those that you are contemplating stocked with fresh content.

I find keeping one site enough work as it is....I can't imagine trying two or more. Best of luck...
