    Default Failed the exam again...

    Hello...
I am new to this forum and posting this message for my husband. My husband decided to become real estate agent couple months ago. He has been taking the exam for 3 times, but he failed one more time today. We are very sad and feel very depressed. The passing score for Maryland is 56 out of 80. His score is always around 50~52. He is pretty angry at himself. We don’t know we should keep trying or just give up. It’s so close, but so far. Please give us some advice...

    Thanks...

Some people do well at testing and some people don't. With that said, some people do well on testing and fail miserably in the field. Don't beat yourself up!

Here is what I think... if your husband is truly interested in pursuing a career in real estate then by all means keep trying.

    Goooooo Beanie!

Push that husband of yours. Besides, the test here in Arizona was all about law, nothing about practicing real estate. So, even though I passed the first time, it only meant that I studied the law. It was no implication that I was going to make it in this career. That was almost 11 years ago.

Another case, my friend from high school saw the pay checks I was earning and decided it was for him. He passed the test the second time he took it, but hasn't sold a single home this entire year. It's A LOT more work than it appears from the outside and he had no idea. And this is his second year... He only got into it for the money and that is the worst reason. Your heart has to be in whatever you choose to do for a living, the money will follow.

Keep trying! As ResaleBroker said, some do well at tests and some don't. Doesn't mean you don't have what it takes to be a super real estate agent!

there are only three things that are really important to passing the test:

    1) Read
    2) Re-read
    and
    3) Re-read it again

I passed the CA test right after it was the "brand new, redesigned, & harder" test and all I did was READ, READ and READ the books I checked out from the library for 6-8 hours a day after my normal job. No cram-class or study group. No fancy books that promise you'll pass... just RE books from the library... I passed the first time. Lucky maybe, did I know the info - for sure!

Stick to it and remember that what you put into it, you'll get right back out of it....

YOU CAN DO IT - Good luck!

    Hi Beanie,

I am sure the Real Estate your husband went to gave him books, etc.
Also, in Arizona, RE School gives you around 400 questions. If he studies the questions and answer them correctly, this may help.

Usually school exams are harder than state exams.

I used this method, I took Crash classes and from start to finish I had my Lic. in less than 2 weeks.

Keep it up, and I wish your husband best of luck.

What might help is for you to test your husband. Read his course study material yourself and then ask him every possible question you can think of. Mark down the ones he gets wrong and then ask him them again the next day. Keep doing this again and again and again until you're both sick to death of the questions.
Passing real estate exams is like learning your two times table. It's rote learning -- memorizing things by constant repetition.
You might also be able to talk to some real estate friends and ask them to ask your husband the questions they think are going to be in the exam. Especially if they're only recently licenced, they may remember some of the questions, too.

Check if crash courses are available in your area and have your husband take one a week or two before the actual exam. Then, get your hands on practice test questions --- as many as you can find --- and have him go over it. Even if he has the material down, there's nothing like going through the drill of test questions --- with plenty of repetitions. It gets you accustomed to how questions are asked.

    Hello…
Thank you all for your replies. You encouraged us a lot. We are located at Maryland, USA. It requires 60 hours of class before taking the exam. My husband already finished his class and passed the class’s final exam. Therefore, we decided to keep trying.
I am just wondering is there any boot-camp classes he can take? any books or materials you recommend him to read?

Again, thanks for all your help
