Funny, but the guy that said it was the menu now wants big bucks to "fix it".

Not Morgan, but from just a quick 5 min look, your links have built slowly over several years and then somewhere around Dec 10' and then again around Dec 11' your site shows almost 5 times as many links acquired than what showed to be the norm for you. That big spike is a red flag. Not necessarily the culprit per se' but a red flag. I'm still trying to make sense of this too so take that for what it is worth....

I am reading and reading about this update.. My San Antonio Site got hit the hardest of all three of my sites to take a hit. I went from the top of page 2 for San Antonio Real Estate to page 61 and #8 for San Antonio Homes for Sale to page 28 now 23. On my Fort Worth site I went from #1 to #10 for Fort Worth Real Estate. Most if not all my inside city pages for both sites drop from page one ranking to out of the top 100 over night. My traffic on each site is only down about 30%.

Currently I am trying to change the anchor text on any links that are sitewide links like blog roll links so they wont be exact match to my main keywords. I dont have that many but i am trying to adjust them.

I am also building out some web 2.0 properties and I am posting fresh content on them and trying to vary the anchor text on each back to the home pages and inside pages. We are keeping the obl low (2 per post). This seem like these will be high authority links. Also they will make a really good buffer for links. Then we are going back and sending a bunch of links at these buffer sites.

It does not sound like it could be the culprit - the penalties for penguin are predominantly "inbound" link based - post the URL and we can take a look though.

This is just too strange. The site owner broke down and paid the guy who worked on the site a while back. Yesterday, the site was not in the index and had no ranking. A few minutes ago, the site owner forwarded the email he sent saying he'd changed the code, and as soon as I got it I checked things out.

The site is back in the index, and is back on Page 1 for 5 of its 6 keyword phrases.

I'm amazed. Perhaps speechless would be a better description.

Checking the code, he still has 2 calls to outside files. One is a .CSS file that is stored on Amazon. I'm going to try putting the file somewhere he can't get at it. The other is a call to http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs.../jquery.min.js

Does anyone know if changes can be made on that API hosted at Google? Hopefully not and this guy is blocked from all the code.

Has anyone ever heard of something that could de-index a site and then immediately re-index it??

This seems very fishy indeed - code added to a page will never "de-index" a site (it might cause it to fall in the rankings a bit) but to be completely de-indexed you need to be banned, or take steps (such as blocking Google bot) to not allow yourself to be indexed. I would not let someone like this ever work on my site.

Morgan, will i see alot of dance on page 49 where i currently rank? Is this normal or if i am moving up is it s a good thing? I started at page 61 but i been changing what i can and have moved up to 49 but it will bounce back a page or two then jump 6 or 7 and repeats everyday
