    Default Single Page Rankings

    Hey,

I was wondering, would it be possible to get a page for example

    http://www.mypage.com/example/

To rank well on the search engines without linking back to the home page?

So you can access that page from the home page, but that page wouldn't have but 1 outbound link sending them somewhere else?

The answer is yes, if I am understanding you correctly. However your page is what is called an "orphaned" page and can terminate yet still rank, a good example of this is buy pages on eccom sites, many times they dont have links anywhere but to non spiderable buy buttons etc.

It is not a very good practice however and would not rank as easily as a properly linked website. In fact look at the bottom of www.seo-guy.com I intentionally link out to 2 authorities in my vertical and am rewarded for it with increased ranks.

Bottom line yes orphans can rank but are much tougher because search engines do not like them and they are PR sinks and not user friendly

Is that a practice, linking out to authorities from the front page, that you suggest?

Google likes links out as well as links in. If you link out to an authority site it shows that your site must know what it's talking about if it also shows you having a link to another site that backs you up. That kind of idea, if you get what i'm talking about. Sometimes I'm bad at putting into words what I know.

Here's what I'm thinking. If a few one way links to authority sites boosts rank then consider me boosted.

But make sure that your authority links are relevant. A logical choice would be a well ranked government site that is relevant.
