I am currently using MLXChange, and was told I could connect directly to their DB if I wanted... has anyone tried doing this? It seems like I should be able to do this.

You may be referring to something different but typically, MLSs offer a framed IDX that connects directly to their database. It is a good inexpensive IDX solution but has drawbacks with features and site integration. Eventhough there are ways to enhance a framed IDX.
