Help please (mortgage/crawlspace)

i would have posted this in the mortgage section, but it doesnt seem to get much traffice. Im working on purchasing a house in chautauqua new york. Originally i was planning on using a VA loan through my husband, but today the real estate agent called saying the appraiser couldnt approve the loan because the crawl space was not accessable, or large enough or something. I didnt actually talk to my agent, but the message she left made it sound like this was a problem with the VA loan. Does anyone know anything about mortgage loans and crawl space requirements. Any help would be appreciated.

Needs to pass an inspection and the crawl space probably needs to be accessible for a full inspection. Where is the crawl space located?

But to answer your question, Kevin is likely correct the loan is probably contingent on a passed inspection and it sounds like the crawlspace is causing the problem. One suggestion would be to do the grunt work and find out what it will take to get the crawlspace to pass the inspection and ask the seller to either pay for the upgrade, or reduce the price the cost of the upgrade and have you pay for it. Now if you are paying for the upgrade make sure you have a signed contract stating their commitment to selling to you.
