Default CTR on Google Ad campaign?

What is a good average CTR with Adwords?

I am just starting out and would like to have a target ( I know as high as possible) to shoot for.

In my area, it costs about $2 a click on Google to be in the top 3. I usually get 1 of every 25 impressions. But I've been told that's pretty high.

1 in 25 would be a 4% CTR. I think that is pretty strong from what I know (which is little). I have a few that have come up that high, but is hard getting goog data in such a short time.

I think above 2% is good? but that is why I am hoping to get alittle feed back from folks who have been doing it a while.

Major keywords in my area have sometimes topped $8 - I find that keeping my budget in check by choosing a lot more keywords and paying little for them is more profitable than paying for a couple high priced ones.. you would be amazed how people find you.

check your own web stats and see if you can figure out where your leads and visits are coming from.. wouldnt you rather gain a lead for ten cents than eight dollars?

hmmmmmmmmmmm......I'm in agreement 100% and have many KW's that only have one (mine) bid or two.

My question, though was to the "Click Through Rate" percentages. I am curious what a decent percentage is for the CTR vs. the Impressions. Right now they very from a little over 1% to as much as 5% ( I have one at 25% but only 4 impressions and 1 click).

I am guessing that above 2% is "good", but I do not have enough true data to confirm that. Looking for input to see what others are running in the CTR.

I am getting my data straight from Google Analytics (which is wonderful!).

P.S. - Thesa, you have properties misspelled in your signature.

Also, I wouldn't mind exchanging KW ideas for those .10 gold miners. Of course a lot of those are "niche" communities or markets that don't transfer to other cities.

    Here is what I found: city real estate---- 20,998 impressions----652 clicks---ctr 3.10%
city homes-----5855 impressions-----607 clicks-----ctr 10.40% These are google #s from last month. Most of my campaigns avg about 10% ctr but have a few that are @ 15% and they get about 500-1000 impressions/month.
I use google, yahoo and msn ppc. Msn is definitely the cheapest but not alot of traffic. Also be sure to use the keyword city mls which in my market is a great keyword for traffic and @ half the cost of some of the more competitive keywords. Also on google use split ads to find the ad that gets the best ctr.

Impressive. i am not hitting any where near those numbers. 2-4%.

I have city mls and 150 other KW's in every shape, size and flavor I could find. I really appreciate the input, I will shoot for some numbers like that. That just seems real high to keep up, or maybe I just don't have ad's worth a crap. I have it set to hit at #1 or #2 on all KW's.

I will try other ad's to keep track of which ones are doing what. I had three, then canned two because the numbers were so much lower.

    Thanks again!

What I found in my Early days of paying too much with Adwords is that
if you want to be on the top 5 position, you will probably get much trash leads and probably no good leads, and with little less money on your pocket.

position 6 the to 9 works best for me with better quality leads coming in..

course Im only paying 4 to 7 cents and my avg CTR for four campaigns are .21% ( I get over 2.5 million impressions on avg month )
lol but it works for me

I've been playing around with position, and have noticed the "spam" phone calls from people & companies trying to sell me crap. I have come up with several good leads with being #1 for a while. I have paused my Adwords, so we'll see how these leads turn out. Had one transferee from Seattle that came in for an interview and was going to use us, but then didn't get the job. We're working several others right now.

I may move back down to the #6 position to see what that does. Thanks for the input.
