I'm an agent in Hudson County NJ and our board just told us we will be able to use IDX in a few weeks. I would like to put a search function on my site and I've been thinking of a google map based solution. I'd love to hear of any reators have had good or bad experience with particular IDX vendors or ways to set this up.
I have a blog at hobokenrealestatenews.com and a static website at hobokensbesthomes.com. I think I want to put the IDX on the blog and just forget about the static site. Comments on this also appreciated.

REW is offering great template sites for no set-up fees. I'd suggest building a new (but keeping your domain name) site and putting a custom IDX on your new site. Then read other posts on how to link your site from your blog and SEO in general.

I agree with Dylan, I would sign up for free template site and have REW integrate customized IDX, really can't go wrong, SEO friendly site with custom idx

I use wolfnet which has been great, but wouldn't recommend, very expensive, I'm paying close to 400/mo due in most part to mapping transactions which are running in the 75,000-100,000 range

this is my third time to retype response bec. of crappy IE explorer crashing, really need to permanetely switch over to firefox...

I'm basically afraid to change something that is working and downtime that will follow. I currently have over 3800 active users searching for properties and worried I might loose potential clients. also, will have to change thousands of links I've created on different sites that feed into idx searches. I started changing most to point to buyandselldallas.com/mls about a year back which should make transition easier when time comes, at least I won't have to change a majority of backlinks

idx provider is killing me with these mapping transactions. each month seems to get worse and worse, which is good for traffic but bad for my monthly budget. I've thought about 86'n map search alltogether, but doesn't seem to be good business decision with feedback I've received from clients.

I do plan on using new idx for new sites I will be creating from scratch, all sites are pointing into buyandselldallas.com idx solution currently

So don't give up your wolfnet, keep it around for existing customers until they are closed. We have done this many times for customers - you just remove the link to it for "new" visitors (This dramatically reduces views) and send an email out to existing users saying please bookmark, as we are keeping the solution up for your use, but replacing the link to it with a different IDX. Once you ferret out the wolfnet users (Hopefully they all become customers) and you are comfortable getting rid of the solution all together, you don't even have to change links - we just 301 redirect the old one to the new one

Btw - I realize in my post it may confuse people, I posted (We are only $30 per month) but our setup fee is a starting point of $2500 - I think you knew that already so I didn't post it, but I didn't want to mislead others.

We have done this as well with a couple of IDX's. The reality is that the increased SERP's results, visitors and sign-in's you will get using an REW custom IDX has a huge advantage over any iFramed solutions. It is only a matter of time before we discontinue our other IDX solutions and the 1,000's who have been getting emails from them need to buy or we say goodbye and they can find our new IDX. I will probably even convert one of those over to REW when they have time.

the REW IDX is by far the most advanced solution available to agents. One of the reason is that the IDX is indexable by google and search engines which means more content for you. I would get a jump on the other agents in the area and do it right from the start.
