When I originally bought my domain dwellatlanta.com I did so for a length of 1 year. After learning that google might give weight to domains that are registered for a longer period of time, I renewed for 10 years.

My question is when does google check to see how long your domain is registered for? Is it when you originally submit your site or is it done periodically? If it is done only when you submit, do you re-submit after you extend the registration?

Jason - I think your analyzing the domain age question a little too deep. I definitely wouldn't worry about doing a re-submit just so G can pick up the fact that you have extended.

I would say this though...there is little doubt that how long you have owned your domain name and how long you will own it in the future is one of over 100+ SE ranking factors. I'm quite certain that during the process of spidering your site they will update the fact that your domain has been extended at some point. Older links from authority sites are also very important as well. As Todd Malicoat once said..."The older the berry the sweeter the link juice."
