Bounce rate is the percentage of visitors leaving immediatly after entering your site. Google Analytics tracks the number of visitors to your site and how long each visitor was on the site.

Interesting... I like your site, and always nice to meet another Oregonian
![]() I just checked my bounce rate for comparison, and mine is listed at 25% in Google analytics. My site was only recently designed, so take that with a grain of salt, but I'd definitely try playing around with things to see if you can improve that number.

With my paltry numbers it is hard to determine anything about bounce rates as of now.
I don't have anything like 25% but that certainly sets the bar low to aim at, whereas mine at the moment has jumped up from SE searches for city real estate to over 60 while city state real estate remain around 50, but this does not factor in SERP which I am sure influences the number. This certainly gives me reason to hide from everyone ASAP to work on my REW site. btw Dylan, your site looks great.

Thanks for the compliments Pinhurst and Portland. My bounce rate is still hovering around 60%, but I think a lot of it is SPAM.

Yeah, the only truly meaningful number is how many leads you get from your site. I may have a low bounce rate, but I'm not getting a lot of leads from it yet. Of course, the traffic is still such a small sample that the data could certainly be skewed.

OK Great information !!!!! Thank you My bounce rate is around 32%.
Now the question; Is there an ideal blend of visitors? Ideally We would like 100 % direct traffic ( someone said organic ) Mine is 50 % referring sites, so I must assume tourists or spiders Search engines around 30% Direct Traffic at 20 % What is the ideal blend?

David, direct traffic are people typing in a browser your web address, so I don't think you want that to be really high. Right now the majority of my visitors come from search engines. I think over time I will get more direct visitors but my overall goal would be to continue to have a large majority come from search engines.

I agree with Carolyn. Why would we be putting all this time into SERP's if you want 100% direct traffic? Most potential buyers are searching the internet and I want them to land on my site! I make my website the center of all advertising though, and I do get a lot of direct traffic. I'd suggest everyone to put their websites on all advertising including their "for sale" signs.

I think that the more direct traffic, the better, because that means that previous visitors are coming back to your site. It could also mean that your offline marketing is working well.
On the other hand, search engine and referral traffic is great too, but my long term concern is that you can never depend on it, because who knows when Google's next algorithm change will shake things up.
