Default Linking to your site

I am a little confused on when, where and how it is appropriate to link to your own site with regard to blogs. I get that you should be producing blogs that offer value and not advertisements, but what about in your profile?

I read everything I could find (in a reasonable amount of time) and checked out what the top rated REW bloggers do and there seems to be a mix of including links to their sites and some that did not (and instead listed the url, or a phone number or did nothing).

Is there a rule of thumb about this? Should your site be linked to in your profile?
Same question about posts in forums. I see some that have links to sites (but titled as keyword phrases).

Could someone please give me a rough overview of when/where/how linking to your own site is appropriate?

Thanks in advance.

I would definitely recommend linking to your site in your profile and in your forum signature. Over time it will help build the reputation of your website, which eventually can turn into leads.

Spence - I'll try and answer this question for you. But before I do...what blog form are you talking about? Is this a blog attached to your website, a separate wordpress blog, AR blog, or maybe even a blog with REW but not attached to a site? Also I would try and narrow your question more to just blogging instead of adding more questions in regards to links in signatures, profiles, and forums. With that many questions your going to get very few replies. So lets just stick to blogs, especially since your in a blog thread. Ok...What kind of blog do you have?

Understood. I was referring to my REW blog attached to my site.

That's a good question I would like to know about too.

I have links in my other blogs outside and even links to interior pages from my aa blog (which I haven't had the time to keep up with) which is a 3rd level domain, but I intend to have an REW blog with my REW site too.

The question seems more about protocol then it would be SEO, but I still see a need to write about and link to interior pages of your site that match up with the content of your blog.

How far off base am I?

I should clarify my last post as well. Obviously the blog on my site will not need to be linked to my site, as it is part of the site.

My confusion is more about the overall blogging picture. Once I have a blog going on my site, my understanding is that I could then submit that same blog in other places (which is why I was wondering if I should include a link to my website in my profile). Is that correct, or in order to blog in other places, do you have to create seperate blogs (and profiles) for each place?

Please forgive my confusion on this...feel like I am learning a new language here with the massive amounts of information I have been taking in learning about blogging, SEO, SERPS...and so on.

Thanks in advance.

Everything I have read on the subject says that a useful blog post will have 3links to your site in the body text.
