I'm with Judyo on this. I have two WP blogs on my own domains as well as an additional one on my website domain. You can optimize them for smaller more specific areas, and then get highly localized traffic and content to your blog (as well as links to your website). I have one for Alpharetta and one for Atlanta. Both are new, but, creeping up in the SERPS!

I have a wordpress blog on my site. The problem I have is that it is not coming up in the keyword rankings. I have a little google gadget on my igoogle page. I have it programmed for "investment austin real estate ". So any blog that mentions that key word will come up on a list in my home page. Do you think this is an issue of being sandboxed by google?? or ??

What types of optimization have you done on your blog for that keyword? Do you have independent one-way links with that keyword as the anchor text pointing directly at your blog? Also, do you have your blog as a subdomain (yourblog.yourwebsite.com) or is it nested beneath your domain (as in yourwebsite.com/blog)?
One thing you can try if this quick SEO check didn't expose some weakness is to get your blog listed with some of the big syndication sites (I think that's what you'd call them) like Feedburner or Technorati etc. Make sure your blog auto-pings them and perhaps a ping service like pingomatic or pingoat everytime you add a post.
