That's where you lose me. A good chunk of whatever "evidence" the SEO world feeds you can't be trusted. The SEO world has an agenda of its own - unlike Google, in that world just about anything goes. People are rewarded for publishing BS. While Google has the SEO community to keep it in check, the SEO world is held accountable by no one.

What gives "facts" thought up by the SEO world validity? Paranoia. Fear. Suspicion. Greed. Doubt. And when a ton of money is at stake, people's minds are overrun with irrational thoughts.

It's beautiful - to push an idea, gain brand awareness, build a larger client base, and add more 0's to their bank accounts, all they need to do is exploit people's emotions - facts sold separately.

How many thousand backlinks were created by the words "Google is not the government"? You tell me.

The lack of facts - like TMZ gone wild - means any rumors hold a grain of truth until proven otherwise.

So the question is why would you choose baseless claims made by a self-serving industry ("screw Wikipedia, Del.icio.us, Digg, and Google - as long as my client gets his/her links and I get paid") over someone who is extremely careful with his words, is more of a code monkey than a spin-happy marketer, and has gone a thousand miles to help webmasters and the SEO community who also happens to work for a company that I'm guessing makes around $140 per second?

Of course Google is years away from perfection. Windows has been out since 1985 (23 years) and Vista is still buggy. Google is only 10 years old. But Google is making progress. Matt Cutts isn't exaggering when he says that. So there are still bugs, exploits, cheats. Of course Matt Cutts won't advertise that to the world. That's the black hatters' job - to keep tabs on which rules can be bent and which can be broken.

I think that there might actually be TWO Matt Cutts...and they each give out opposing information! You just have to guess which one is right!
