I'd give you a good run for your money. Three 21' Monitors, a color HP laserjet 1600 on the right side, HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 printer, fax, scan, copier on the left side, 5 stacks of paper each 2" high on the desk, another 15 2" high stacks of paper in a semi circle on the floor behind my desk, three cell phones, A Nikon SLR and a sony hd handy cam..... Unlike you I don't know where anything is.

Mike - I am not organized either. I use one day planner that I write each days tasks and important phone numbers down on. I carry it everywhere I go. It is the only way I can stay half way organized. I have my card taped to the back of it so that someone could contact me if I left it somewhere.

I have found that 15 minutes in the morning going over what I need to do that day and listing the activities will net a lot more completed work. The list keeps me from getting distracted.

I have found that I need only the simple day planner. Those complicated kind are for people who are already organized.

As for email - I get about 100 per day and have trouble with this as well. The only thing that helps me - is to transfer them either to whoever they need to go to, or transfer them to my to do list, or immediately reply. If I don't need to do any of these then they must not be important.

I am definitely ADHD and have to use coping skills like the ones above along with an assistant or I won't get anything done.

I read the "getting things done " book as well. I need to go back and re-read it until it sinks in.

It all comes from wearing too many hats. I am the listing agent, the marketing director, the webmaster, the janitor if need be.

Its just too much. I would suggest getting an assistant. You cant let your choas affect your clients or your files. So That is my link to sanity. Also-- I have a bookkeeper. Even if you have someone come in just a few hours a week. It is good to have people who are good at record keeping do the jobs that more creative types like me just cant do that well. Its still a struggle. But I would be totally sunk without the assistant and the bookkeeper. You cant do it all.

The worst thing about not being able to do it all is that it seems like no one else will ever do it as well as you could have yourself. I'm three years into this with a small team and I've already hired and fired a half dozen characters. Where do you go to find driven intelligent workaholic team members? At the moment I truly do the work of at least four normal people.

Mike - I would say that you will either have to let go and accept that others are not going to work the way you do ( if they did they would not need you) or you probably need to just hire assistants and not have the team members. Just do all you can with 1 or 2 assistants and refer the rest out.

This is my opinion as I have been analyzing and struggling with the same issues.

Not a bad idea but learning a new market would be a pain in the rear. I could be talked into it if it were in a market where I could both ski & sail and still make six figures. Tahoe would be pretty nice but I'm not sure how the market is performing.

I'd also be up for working seasonally in two different markets. Winter someplace where I could ski and summers near a nice area for boating. I'd enjoy sorting through my daily e-mail a lot more if it were from my office in a 50 foot yacht
