Can you say Mimosa!
Is that before or after I have one?!! I had a great pair of jeans with different colored patches everywhere and those hippie handbags with the fringes are actually back. My parents must have been beside themselves. I dated one of Forbes body guards and we used to go for rides on Malcom's motor cycles....he has two garages full of them and lots of helmets too. I would wear Liz Taylor's. ![]()

I think to us young folk, true hippies are more or less the same as they were in the 60's.. albeit, less cheesy. That could be due to less LSD flowing through the system.

No pics. I wasn't one of those glarring hippies with the Peace shirts, bandanas wrapped everywhere anyway. Those would make better pictures. Its this kindof thing we need to avoid....

I think the modern day hippie listens to bands like Phish and Moe, smokes pot and may use other drugs, and wears tye-dye shirts, similar to the hippies from the 60's and 70's, except insert the Grateful Dead for Phish and Moe.

There has to be an element of rejection of the establishment & societal norms... General rebellion towards mainstream society & its expectations.

I believe this is the definition of a hippie that most boomers think of these days, much more than the pot smoking, dirty person who wears tye dye shirts. That would be like saying all blondes(sp?) are dumb.

I don't think I'd call myself a true hippie but I did take a long strange trip after college and spent four years traveling and working here and there in places where a lot of other hippies liked to hang out. Specifically I worked at ski resorts in Colorado and northern California, was a Mt. bike guide in Moab Utah and a commercial fisherman in Alaska. I also listened to a lot of GD & Phish as well as spent two weeks in the Haight-Ashbury area of San Fran. Does that make me a hippie?
