I use rackspace for colocation myself and highly recommend them as a service provider. They are certainly not cheap. But I'd rather have a bill and websites that make my clients and myself money, than no bill and no revenue

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. Please excuse the newbie questions.

With regard to servers, what would be good minimum specs for a server? I'm with the SWMLS. Our MLS currently has around 10,000 (residential, commercial, land, etc.) listings.

The number of listings is just one factor. What are you planning on doing with the data, what kind of application do you intend to code?

Also, what is your jump up and down I have all of the traffic I will ever want number? 1000 uniques a day 2000? Take that number and double it, and multiply it by an average of over 30 page views per visitor and make sure you are prepared for that kind of server load.

What are you coding in? PhP? .net?

I won't be doing it, I wouldn't know how. I'm interested in the service and thought I'd start asking some questions. I want to get an idea of the costs involved and different options available.

If you had REW host it, your cost per IDX would be $30 per month and hosted on Rackspace. If you got your own dedicated server, it would cost you several hundred per month.

I currently have a server. The specs are:

Supermicro \ P4SBE \ P4SBE
1 Intel \ 2.4 GHz \ Pentium 4
1 1024 MB \ DDR 266
1 Onboard \ IDE
1 Western Digital \ 80GB:IDE:7200RPM \ WD800JB

Redhat Linux - OS 7.3
DarkORB CPanel 6

Would this handle the load?
