It's critical because it builds a relationship with the public in way you could never otherwise get. I'm not sure it "brings" huge amounts of sales (at least for me) however I will guarantee that it locks down most of the clients I meet with and show homes too when they go to my website and start reading the info I put up there. Once they see all the info I have blogged about they know that I know a decent amount of what I'm doing and they become loyal clients.

No question. I honestly think a well maintained blog with local market information is MORE important than the whole website. A blog gives credibility
and gives users up-to-date market info. You become an authority on your market in their eyes. When potential clients need to sell their home, they will value that more than a fancy page explaining why they should choose you.

Read The Real Estate Tomato Blog.

If you're willing to spend 2 hours reading their articles and tips on making a good Real Estate Blog, you're probably willing to spend the time maintaining the blog 5+ hours a week.

I personally get hooked on blogging, and can write 2-3 posts a day if I wanted.

Caution: be ready to work and learn a new website. It's not easy, but can be simple once you get the hang of it. And DO NOT use it as your journal/diary. Post good content that will attract people to using your services and you can't lose in the long run.

Again, All this can be found at the Real Estate Tomato Blog.

Funny name, serious advice.

My blog is a powerful tool to communicate with my clients and potential client base. People can go to my site and see videos of me and my thoughts...

Its a great way to promote what you see as your advantages over your competition...

AND it gives you a great SEO boost if you post on a regular basis. Google loves fresh original content and a blog allows you to create just that on a regular basis!

I haven’t been happy with my blog results. I post regularly, and it has streamlined my business shaving hours off my week. But even though I drive 1000’s to it from my data base each month the truth is I’ve been getting very little return. Maybe I’m impatient.

But I thought maybe it should be more interesting, and I’ve been trying to add video introductions to my websites … so a video blog seemed to make sense … but I wanted to have the content a bit more organized than just a scroll … (I liked the categories in the blogs)….

So, after a bunch of eggnog with equal parts rum over the last few weeks this is what I’ve come up with.:

http://www.ChomzTV.com

I’m thinking of this as the second tier for building a place people want to come back to and tell their friends about.

This is all very new to me … feedback would be very welcome.

Thanks for pointing that out !!!!

I do have a Contact Link on the home page where people can e-mail, text, tweet, phone or write … but I overlooked adding a link to it from each page.

I’ll get on that today.

I am moving away from forms, I have a number of other sites, all ranking really well and generating consistent / increased traffic .. But the number of people completing forms has been dropping off on a steady rate for the last 2 years. I have a theory about that and I expect that trend to continue for several reasons.

But I think as time goes on and the market gets slower and sales decrease, the public will become even more wary of contacting a real estate guy for fear that we may “trap” them into something. The internet is a great way to stay anonymous .

This site is the start of my attempt to bridge that gap. If they can “meet” me before I meet them maybe they’ll be more comfortable.

What did you think of the “real-e-ality” show. It’s a real stretch for me ??

Dave,

Nice concept and implementation... Good last video on search and google's mother in law With such self created quality content, you should really think about putting some effort into your design of your site... it can make a hell of a difference to some visitors.

Keep it up!

A blog is important on so many levels. First, every time you write a blog, you creat a new page on your website for Google to index. Second, it builds a relationship with potential customers who are getting to know you. Third, conent is great for SEO and rankings. ETC...I could go on forever but yes, it's a must if you want to be "The Authority" on real estate in your area.
