Hey guys, what is your take on submitting to Web directories these days. Sure you get an indexed link, but it is usually on a PR 0 page. Do these links add up over time to help you? Or did Google ban directories from passing link juice. It seems to me that submitting to them is now a waste of time.

I think if it is easy enough to submit the link, I go ahead and do it. I wouldn't put too much effort into it. Doesn't hurt you never know you may even get a lead or someday if you're lucky.

Find something more productive to do. It's not the quantity of your backlinks as much as it is the quality of your backlinks. The only way to get quality backlinks is to write unique quality content.

I do it. It's easy and sometimes I don't feel like writing.

There's a lot to say about getting your site everywhere. Link quality is a big deal but every link is just one more opportunity for exposure in some way. Directory links increase your chances of being seen.

IMO it just makes sense to be in as many places as possible -

I have a few directory links that are over 2pr, with only 2-3 outbound links on the page. I got these links for free and at the time no pr. I use a recipe and try a little bit of everything. I takes me about 30 sec to submit to a directory. (use roboform) Overtime as the pages get older the links will give you some juice. Its a long term thing.

But its true one link with keywords from a pr7-8 page, could equal about 1000 no value links.

I usually try to find directories that cater especially to my site's category. In that way, the back links that I receive are relevant and my visitors are targeted.

submitting to directories should be related to your site, in that case the back links you get are credible and it can easily targeted your keywords, I still believed there are lots of companies who are aiming the same thing.

For now quality relevant links seem to be the most desirable and worth putting time and effort into these, quantity doesn't seem to hurt at the moment but that could change at anytime.

After having experienced the downside of bad linking programs, nothing good happens when you depend on any single SEO strategy. A balance between growing your site by adding good content, relevant quality PR inbound links, linking to other quality authoritative sites from interior pages, having a plan in your internal linking strategy, a balance of photos and content, wise use of keywords and linking from and to them, having a quick loading SE friendly coding and a constant eye on the never ending changes in SEO will produce the results I seek, and yes this includes being in some directories. I look at my stats and see some actually produce hits ~ but for all I know those hits could be other agents or spiders, but it shows the link is working.

All 'I' have to do is build that sucker now

I agree, quality over quantity and having links coming from relevant sources equals a good linking strategy.
