I pretty much go by ear, but I would really want to know what others are doing and why you decided to do it that way.

I go by ear or gut also. If I know something about the lead like type of job, personality etc that would suggest a certain route like MR. I use that otherwise I go with gut when they answer or I meet them in person. I think people relate to natural not staged conversations more.

I almost always reply to people by their first name, but I live in a relaxed community and have a relaxed selling style so it just works. Plus, I haven't gotten burned by it yet

The website I currently get leads from markets a high-end golf community of residents and second home buyers, so I don't know how to approach it sometimes. I’ve had more success going with their first name, but at times I felt some leads act cold if I approached them by their first name, especially women.
Something else I have noticed is that when I write to someone with Mr. or Ms., they tend to reply to me by just saying “Hi”. In contrast when I write by first name, they usually reply saying “Hi Carlos”. I’ve also made changes, like starting off with Mr. and then after a few emails start addressing by first name, and I’ve also made mistakes like addressing someone with Dr. First Name instead of Dr. Last Name, it is just that this is something complicated but I think very important. That first contact email could make you or break you. |

Bend is pretty relaxed, so I tend to reply to leads using first names. But I also use MR or MRS, it depends on the lead type.

We live next to the beach, so everyone is very relaxed. First name is the way to go, but if we see they work for the navy base or airforce, we go by "mr/mrs."

first name. If someone is really hung up on the Mr/Mrs/Dr, they will sometimes include the salutation in the sign-up so you can use that as a hint to how they would like to be addressed

Using the first name is great, sort of a casual and formal thing combined. Feels like talking to a close friend and that's good to begin a good relationship.

I always use first name. If you call someone and say is Mr. Jones there they automatically think you are a telemarketer or something. I find asking for Bob always works better.
