I have been blogging since 2007. I have a very successful investment property blog that ranks #1 for many keywords. It was very easy for me to post on this site several times a week as I own investment properties and I work exclusively with investment property buyers.
I am looking to grow and diversify my real estate business. I decided recently to take my web/blog experience and branch out to start a couple other owner occupant/city targeted sites. Surprisingly, even though I live in the neighboring city, I have to admit that I am really struggling to come up with any interesting/relevant/meaningful content. My question is: For those of you that have branched out past your primary city and have started a new blog, do you have any tips for where/how to find content?

This may not directly answer your question but there is a ton of PLR (private label content) out there. With PLR you can use the content as you see fit and edit it however you wish before putting your name on it.
It is most effective when you find a good source and you edit it somewhat for your own personality or area where you are marketing. Another option is ghostwriters - they can be found inexpensively. I managed to secure the services of a ghostwriter who is also an agent so the material is good. Hope this helps, Russ

Scott...it seems to me that if you already have a successful blog...why not use the same content ideas (i.e. local housing prices up or down, Who is buying now, community info, etc.) do a Google search to see what comes up.

We all come down with a bad case of writers block now and then. It happends to the best of us. Us real estate agents get sick of writing about the same stuff all the time like housing prices, community info, etc.

I find news on Charlotte. This gives me ideas.

I just had a thought... if you had substantial traffic to your blog or website perhaps you could contact local businesses in your target area and charge them a small fee (or even do it free) to promote any special events or even just introduce services, institutions, and businesses in the area with small advertorial posts.
In fact, you could contact all the businesses and institutions and tell them that if they were holding an event or promotion of any kind that you would be willing to put the word out for them, then give them your email and ask them to inform you whenever they wanted you to promote them. That way you'll stay constantly updated on really local events without having to dig around too much. You could write a post about a great school in a certain district, and then at the end of the post put a link to homes/apartments that are close to the school. You could have a list of services and conveniences in a certain area and direct potential buyers of property in the area to that list so they can see that the property is only 20 mins away from a pool, grocery store, restaurant, laundromat, gas station, whatever. And maybe in return ask those businesses to put up a small sticker with your website/phone number somewhere around their cash register or in some other prominent place. |

thanks so much for the link to the "106" ideas. Great great inspiration when writer's block sets in!

Why not just read the newspapers online in the cities you wish to write about and apply your knowledge to those articles? I am not advocating stealing any of the information, just doing your market research via Google News.

However there are also tons of low quality plr content, and as far as real estate is concern, its pretty scarce in terms of volume. Make sure what you are getting is not a rehash of the earlier versions you've bought. If you are able to spend $10-$20 per original seed article written by ghostwriters go for it by all means. |
