I would put myself in the category with Jay and Ryan--Sites are (for the most part) for buyers. Blogs are (for the most part GREAT tools for listing...there is nothing that says they should not be combined on the same domain...indeed a strong case can be made FOR it.
I think that much can be gained from using targeted blogs to exploit niches as well. Have seen a ton of that done as well in our office and to GREAT success. Best; Eric

We just need the ability to rss and wysiwyg the traditional sites, then blogs will become extinct.

I agree. More SEO friendly CMS's with RSS features will probably lead the way in new sites. The ability to have both good static features that CMS offer combined with the SEO friendliness of blogs and use of RSS will lead the way of newer sites and work on making monay blogs somewhat extinct.

True, eventually all website will be a nice blend of the two styles and we won't have to choose which way to go. I prefer the static website right now, but it would be nice to add the web 2.0 features a blog offers to the static format.

i think it depends how you define a traditional site.

Both blogs and website have their place. Consumers looking for homes to purchase will always prefer to have a central data base with the listings of an entire market. This is why sites will always have a place. Blogs look neat are fun to read but would be a mess when it comes to finding listings. Another thing from the perspective of an agent is that it would be much more difficult to keep track of direct mail campaign response rates with a blog in comparison to a website. Previous posts made the point of having both and I believe those are words of wisdom.

Are Blogs going to make traditional sites extinct?
No...howver, I believe it will get more complicated.

Amen to that... the 3 sites in my sig all have blogs integrated. But, by no means will I ever attempt a pure/straight blog/only as a real estate sale site.
