I don't sell homes or invest in property so I would say I think more like a consumer. If I came across a local blog, I would
a) assume the writer was a local. Joining a social club should be good enough because you're investing in the community. b) I like to see cool pictures of my city, not of houses because if you've seen one, you've seen them all. c) Try going to a sporting event in the area. You'll be less about business and more about enjoying the entertainment, which makes people more trusting. d) Advertise local businesses and start a contest simultaneously on the blog. It stirs publicity for everyone!

I am working as a freelance writer since alst 8 yrs and never felt a need of source too find the topic for the content writing. Daily, we come across many developments in social, personal, political, business, international, medical etc like fields, so I select any as per my mood and also as per the requirements of my clients.
