Laid Back Chat We are all friends here and sometimes we just want to chat. It doesn't have to be real estate web development all the time, some times we have a new baby in the family, sometimes we have a beef or boquet. Sit back and relax here.

Default Software Marketing and RE Ethics

An agent, unrelated to REW, requested a free license for a $39.95 real estate software product in exchange for posting a link on his site to a trial version of the software.

He would receive a free license, his site visitors will see a link on his site to download a free, 10-use trial version of the software, my company delivers more free trials (and increases sales).

From the software business side of the table, this looks good.

But what are the ethical issues for the agent?

I fail to see how this belongs in the "Real Estate" chat section I will move it to laid back chat - but I honestly don't think you will get to many bites in terms of trying to combine a discussion about drawing attention to your software and Realtor ethics - This post just doesn't make sense.

Default Re: Software Marketing and RE Ethics

Thanks for putting it in the proper location. I looked for the forum that might most relate to real estate ethics. I'm not trying to draw attention to any product. I'm asking for help.

I mentioned no products in the post. I have, however, often mentioned software products that are unrelated to my company when I thought they would be useful tools for REW members who asked for assistance with their own sites.

My post is an honest post. In fact, it's the first of 100+ in which I've asked for help.

I ask because I've read how agents have bumped up against ethics boards and RESPA because of the "extra's" they have offered. I'm not an agent or broker and can't answer the question for myself. I don't know where those lines are.

I thought REW would be a good place to get answers.

Again, thanks for putting it in the proper location. And I apologize if you feel I've misused the REW forums.
