Gathering domain names is something that I do in lieu of a second yearly trip to Vegas.

One name that I originally bought with a community blogging idea in mind was
Austin Realtor talk. com.

Anyone have an idea of a developmental slant on this targeted phrase?

Hate to be late to the game. You definitely want branding! But you should consider branding yourself with a domain someone else may want to purchase in the future should you get ready to retire. It is not likely someone that does not have the name Davis will want your domain in the future. For example, I have branded myself Gulfshoreslife.com driven by experience from naming my wifes site with her name and then there being no one being able to take that brand on in the future, or not likely they will want to. Brand yourself with your region keywords, not your name. You need to build and brand a domain that is saleable to a wide audience, you can always point Daviscompany.com to that saleable domain, but utilize the saleable one in all of your branding, marketing, etc. and begin burning it into minds for your future well being.

Thataway61 -- I hear you--- the issue is that all of the good generic names were taken. If I could have found Austinlife.com or Austinrealestate-- I would have went for it. But the issue is that I couldnt find an decent easily memorable names. The best I could find is AustinMetroHomeSearch.com.

That one is easy confused with a lot of other names. At least DavisCompany.com is easy to remember and goes with the brand.

I also own AustinCondoBroker.com--- now that is a decent name. But its too narrow for my business right now. I may use that in the future.

The whole conversation about selling the company to someone else-- I am kind of limited in that way by even naming the company Davis Company.

Domain names dont mean much as was indicated above...look at godaddy for example, you would never know that was a site to buy domain names. In either event, it all boils down to SEO

Marketing websites is more than just SEO... it's branding. As you said, Godaddy is a great example. What does the word "Go daddy" have to do with domains and websites? Absolutely nothing, but it's short and memorable.

That's not to say that SEO isn't important, and Godaddy does a great job of it, but what they've really done is to create the most well known domain registrar in the country through a wide variety of creative and scandalous marketing efforts.

Branding is important, SEO is important, depends on your business model. If you are assuming that most of your traffic will come from online, SEO, if not, then branding, or if you're really good, then both
