This thread may be old, but still good and its interesting to see the changes and new phrases that get added in over the 'years'... like the 'green' stuff.

I still get good traffic from "area mls". Don't forget common misspellingss.

It really depends on your area. If your city has the same name as another city in a different state, it may be more direct for you to focus on the city, state of where you live.

Even though the thread is old, the subject is really time less. I don't think it really matters where you do your search...it seems like "City real estate", "City state real estate", and "City homes for sale" are always at the top of the list. But beyond the top 25 search terms or so...it would be interesting to follow this thread over time and check to see if others are having success with new terms.
I don't see "Search city mls" much in my area because according to our mls the only thing we can say is "search by mls number" and that we are members of the mls. I'm also seeing more and more sites going outside the bigger towns and concentrating on smaller markets where they can carve a niche.

On your home page, how many key words can you effectively optimize?

I just looked at your home page, I think you have done a fine job optimizing a lot of keywords. When I first started to learn about SEO I filled my homepage with all of my keywords, but I did it in a distasteful way. I didn't realized the importance of making it more the reader and less for the SEO. But yet to do it an a way where the reader has no idea what you are doing is where it gets to be an art. The more you can write about and the more keywords you can cover and still keep it informative, the better off you are. Again I think you have done a good job on your home and I have seen no problem in tweaking it from time to time. I have made many changes and still continue to do so and I have seen no negative side effects, and will continue to try and improve my keywords in a tasteful manner.

Great point Bham. IMO SEO is all about finding that itch and scratching it. Creating customized targeted pages for those smaller towns can uncover a gold mine of potential.

or may be "realestate for sale" , "land for sale", "land sellers","land buyers"
These keywords may help. |

What about the keyword order? Does area+keyword generate more traffic or is it the other way around?
