I really like GoDaddy I never have had a problem with them and they are relatively cheap.

The issue with cheapo hosts is you get what you pay for. Let's just say you get mentioned on the news. An influx of visitors coming to your site would boot you and countless other sites offline because you didn't anticipate the traffic.

An excellent resource for choosing a host is http://www.webhostingtalk.com
Out of literally hundreds of hosts, I chose Liquid Web for the following reasons:

*Payment for hosting doesn't go through until they verify that you are who you are.
*They always answer by the 3rd ring.
*They have unmatched support 24 hours a day and have fixed any quirks with my server.
*If they don't know the answer, they will contact you in about an hour via email with the answer.

With a new business that will require clients signing into their dashboard, I can't afford to be wrestling server issues. It's good to know I've got people.

Some tips about fantastico:

If you don't need it, don't use it. Fantastico itself is literally a one click install but it is a cookie cutter web script. If hackers were to find a hole, they know what to look for because every one click install via fantastico has a variation of the same name.

If you have the know how, it's good practice to install it yourself and manually name the database.. Learning how to do manual upgrades will make you more familiar with the maintenance and upkeep of your site.

Everyone of my clients have had a pre-exisiting hosting account and luckily they have all been local companies. For the most part I have no problem installing and configuring WordPress with any of the small hosting companies. They might not always know what exactly to do if something goes wrong but are always willing to work with me.

I'll second that. However, that being said, I don't like Plesk, which is what 1 and 1 uses for a control panel interface. It's not terribly smooth upgrades.

Good luck with it!
Create a Google account, and then go into Google Webmaster Tools, click on the link to tell them to recheck your website.

Usually when these viruses get dispatched to your website using Javascript and IFrames, it's because the files got infected on your Windows machine that you uploaded the files from, or when you created the posts on the website, the virus got injected from the virus running on your machine.

Put another way, make sure you're running a decent Antivirus program (Antivir is what I personally recommend - http://www.antivir.com/), and that your definitions are up to date. Also try to have at least two spyware scanners that you run. I use SpyBot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.com/). And same rule here...make sure your definitions are up to date. Also, SpyBot S&D has a resident option that you should enable. It'll warn you if something tries to modify your registry without your knowledge.

Whatever you do, do NOT use godaddy. Look at what happened to google crawling after I switched away from godaddy a couple of weeks ago.

Was this with the hosting that's included free with your domain, or was it paid hosting?

If it was free, you get what you pay for. They probably have a very high website to server ratio for the free hosting, which would explain your time spent downloading a website being so high with Go Daddy. And if it's taking so long to download pages, it would also reason that you would have less pages crawled; generally if it's taking longer to download pages often times, it's because it times out on some pages, waiting for a response.

I would imagine you'll run into the same problem with a super cheap hosting company, too.

Another reason it could be for the long download times, is that Go Daddy doesn't allocate a lot of bandwidth for the free websites.

I use them for my domain registration and I'm quite happy with them. However, there's no way I would use them for hosting because that's just not their strongpoint, and they never try to push themselves as a hosting company. The only hosting I use there, is their 'cash parking', and I do that hoping to make some money off of other domains I've registered to secure my domains. So if I've registered a .com, a .net, a .org and a .ca, I'll cash park the .net and the .org, and have the .com redirect to a .ca, hosting the main website on the .ca.
