So how do you get an invite? Is it like the Gmail launch, where invites could be forwarded to others?

Scott Hack got the invite a couple of weeks ago as well. I think Steve's description of what it will provide is extremely accurate.

The transcription thing is the main thing to me...looking forward to hearing what you have to say, Steve.

best

Eric

The transcription feature has been available from a couple providers for several months now, but it hasn't been very cheap. I figured this was the kind of must have feature that would become mainstream though. Of course, Google does a one-up on everyone by making this stuff free.

If Google makes it possible to import an existing phone number into their system, then it would really start to get exciting.

seconded.

I would like to have a couple of 'google' numbers... real estate business line to post places. Personal business like to post places (non-real estate business), etc.

Anyone know if you can have more than one google number on one account? Just bought my google voice on ebay for .99 - should be getting it via email shortly.

There is no need to buy an account when you can sign up for it and you should have in invite in a week - at least I got mine in week. And plus, according to the f.a.q on the google voice page, the program is being open to everyone in a few weeks. My guess by the end of summer.

If you go to voice.google.com there is a link at the bottom to request an invite.

I have heard they are rolling out the invites in the order that people signed up.

Unfortunately, current users do not have the ability to send out invites.

I would recommend searching out several available vanity numbers prior to the arrival of your invite. It took me a while but I was able to locate a decent vanity number. (813.778.LIST)

If you are planning on using it for a specific channel, such as MLS listings, then try to find a number XXX-XXX-4MLS. You get the idea.

Wow sounds like a really interesting concept. I wonder how well the voice to text system works. I hope we have gotten to the point where they can achieve 90% transcription of voice. I'm definitely checking that out.

Here is what i get when i try to sign in with my google account.
Google Voice: Coming soon
Print
Google Voice is a service that gives you one number for all your phones, voicemail that is easy as email, and many enhanced calling features like call blocking and screening, voicemail transcripts, call conferencing, international calls, and more.

Google Voice is currently available for GrandCentral users only, but will be open to new users soon. In the meantime, please leave us your email address and we'll notify you as soon as Google Voice becomes available. To learn more about Google Voice, check out our feature videos.

When can I sign up?
We expect to have the service ready for new users in a matter of weeks, and are focused on opening it as soon as possible.

What if I reserved a number on the GrandCentral site before?
We will be emailing you when Google Voice is open to the public to sign up for the service.

How much does it cost?
The service is free.

What do I do if I am already a GrandCentral user?
Over the next few days, instructions will appear in your inbox on how to upgrade your GrandCentral account to Google Voice. Thanks for your patience.
If you're a GrandCentral user who has upgraded to Google Voice but you're being directed to this page, this means you've signed in with a different Google Account than the one you used when upgrading to Google Voice. Please visit https://voice.google.com again and sign in with the Google Account you used when upgrading to Google Voice.
