I have been using Twitter regularly and definitely see the potential for agents who want to carve out a niche and getting regional followers.

Good places to eat
Twitpics of showings with brief reviews
Things you're doing
And most importantly -- links to useful & pertinent resources such as local news stories impacting real estate.
