Hey, bear with me, I posted the exact same post on another forum that I frequent, but it's very applicable for us in the RE business:
I began disputing items using www.annualcreditreport.com last month (the real free credit report service) and I am now hearing back from the credit agencies... Just received my first corrected report from Experian, and the 3 items that I disputed were removed. I'm a lender here in FL, and credit is VERY IMPORTANT, as you can imagine for mortgages. These were a few items that were left over from college a (cough) few years ago, ok more than a few if you are going to hold me to it ... phone bills mainly... I mention this because if a client is borderline... then they should do this, and do it early on in the real estate process. There is no excuse, if they are motivated... and if I can do it, so can they. It took me all of 15 minutes to dispute all 3 bureaus. They can better their credit scores (or at least attempt to) with only a little elbow grease. I'm going to start passing this along to my clients, too.

Great post. Years ago, I counseled my employees to check their credit every six months.
Just make sure the credit reporting website is legit. See here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...reereports.htm and here https://www.annualcreditreport.com/
