Default What brand computer does the REW staff use?

At REW do you all have the same model computer or does each department get something different? Mac/PC ? how fast, specs etc???

I picture Morgan on a 6 monitor 10 processor server that looks something like it came from the movie THE MATRIX :-)

Personally I build my own. Dual Core AMD with a ton of memory, SATA drives, and three 19" monitors that I can use as one ultra long monitor when I need to.

I keep the MLS up on the left monitor, My website on the center Monitor (sometimes has better info than the MLS), and the REW Forum up on the right monitor :-) Winamp is usually playing loud music that Realtors should not be listening to. I've got the quick mute button for client calls. What would my clients say if they knew I was usually in my PJ's drinking beer and listening to Korn while I was chatting to them on the phone? It's amazing what you can do from a good home office these days.

Any other computer geeks care to share what they work on?

I'm not on the staff, but this is what I use.. It's pretty quick! It's a hybrid.. It runs on gasoline and electricity.

I honestly don't know what kind of computer I use, Thomas (Tech guy) built it for me - Thomas what kind of system is this? lol

We do build all our own PC's

A few things I know about my office PC

It has dual 19" Philips flatscreen LCD monitors
It has an AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+
It is 2.21 GHz with 3.50 GB of ram
I have 300+ gigs of storage space

I have never been much of a hardware geek, so as long as it is fast and has enough RAM to run 20+ MSN conversations, 20+ simultaneous browser windows (Firefox and IE) a bunch of outlook windows and dreamweaver / ZEND then I am pretty happy

I know this is a realtor forum, however, i'm going to be in the market for a new computer in the next 3 months and i want an absolute monster. What would a setup similar to yours cost with the multiple monitors and stuff? I'm on my computer working from 11am until 4am off and on throughout the day and want a real nice setup when i decide to splurge and treat myself to a computer upgrade

These days almost any computer is fast enough for basic Realtor/Realtor Webmaster duties.
The only people who need cutting edge machines are those who work with video processing and computer games.

I've stuck my wife on an old P350 from 7 years ago that does just fine for surfing the web/working on the MLS/and sending E-mail.

My home machine is an older athlon 2400 (3 years old) with a gig and a half of ram, and I'm on it 4-8 hours a day. It multi tasks just fine. Burning DVD's and downloading music at the same time that I'm working in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, the MLS and having a number of browser windows open in both IE and Firefox.

For multiple monitors it's easiest to buy a video card made for that purpose but it's almost as easy just to add multiple video cards.

If going with multiple monitors and multiple video cards it's best to have them all be the same brand and same model.

I buy all of my parts from pricewatch . com

Prices for a simple dual head video card start at around $23.99 and can go up into the thousands. I think I paid about $150 for mine.

Their are dozens of tutorial on the web for multiple monitors.

Basically you can right click any open area of your desktop Then select "Properties" followed by "Settings" this is where you will make all of your display selections.

To look at monitors take a peek at this link:

Happy shopping and let us know what decide!
