Has anyone seen this? You can create a search engine to search only the sites you tell it to search, they give you the code and you can put it on your site.

I thought it might be a neat gimmick to have on my website. You can use it for a real estate directory and it will only search the sites you tell it to search. It says "custom google search" in the search box. It will only list sites you are linked with.


Any thoughts?

google, right under the seach box it says new custom search engine. I think it could be a good gimmick. you could let users "search google" and you can customize what they get as responses. I set one up and put it on my site. I had to take it down because it uses google's indexed pages and I just had REW make a new site for me and my relocation url is not yet indexed.

Im not sure how it works adding it to your site yet, I only have a blog right now, and i seem to be unable to add it to my blog, which bothers me, bu tim sure there is a way around it i just havent figured it out yet.

The Custom Search can be modified to only search pages from your URL (which is good), but unfortunately, the results page also displays Sponsored Ads (PPC).

So it's nifty to be sure, but you run the risk of losing visitors to competitors PPC links that also are served up with your results.

That's a solid point. Might be OK for other sites (non-RE) like Auliya's examples, but I don't want to bring 'em in and pass 'em off on my RE stuff. Kinda defeats the purpose (grin)
