Default Links, Time and Content-How is it weighted?

To the best of anyone's idea, which of these is most and least important? I see some sites with little to no content at the top and others with lots of content that rank high.

Content is King. What would you prefer, to access services from a site that doesnt explain its self very well, or a site that gives you all the information you need to make an informed decision. Time is very important, as it takes time to build links, and it takes time to write good quality and unique content on your site. Links are important as we all know for getting seen and gaining traffic and higher rankings. I cant really say any of these are more important than the other. Time is needed for both, you can t do either in a matter of seconds or minutes. A good balance of quality and unique content, on/off page optimization, and relevant links will help you get to the top. ANything worth doing is worth doing right, and that means taking the time to do it.

Generally speaking, a site focusing primarily on quality content may be able to outrank a site that is focusing primarily on link building... and vice versa, but a site that successfully incorporates both will always outrank a site that incorporates only one or the other...

Time is a whole other story. In general, links+time will almost always beat out just content+time. Links+time will usually beat out links+content, as well. Links+content+time will trump all.

My philosophy in approaching SEO is to look at your site and url and worry LESS about competition, but rather judge against Google's version of perfection which includes BOTH elements.

SEO is about objective honesty. Work on what your site is weak on and you get ahead. Focus on what you are already good at and you will still have a weak spot where others can pick you off.

What kid disco says about links + time beating out content + time is EXACTLY right. I just did a site in another industry that was a fairly competitive term. We did the on page stuff, but had to wait until enough of the linking had been up long enough to make a difference.
