Eric -
GA seems to be back on its regular schedule (results lagging approx 4 - 6 hrs). I've always been curious as to why GA seems to show around 25% less visitors (sessions) and pageviews than UrchinStats. Doesn't Google own Urchin? Anyone else notice this? |

Interesting.
I have never compared GA to Urchin straight up.. I have always used GA as back up analytics program on sites where I didn't have Urchin through my hosting provider...I will try one out and see... Eric

Google says that the Analytic stats are updated every 24 hours, so I imagine if they beat that, they figure it's a gift.

Google analytics VS Urchin - The version of Urchin that is installed on the server is an older version and Google has vastly improved the filtering of the logs - there are also subtle differences like Google Analytics doesn't report known user agents as unique visitors (Bots) and because our sites are highly linked on the web, we get a TON of bots
Honestly, I would scrap urchin altogether as it is no longer supported since the google buyout and go with the much more powerful analytics application.

Morgan;
Great info. Thanks much. Even though I am not (yet) on one of your sites...I am sure this applies to me as well. I am going to hook up to GA as a main analytics source --then run them parallel for a bit, get the stats synched up and then see about dropping Urchin... Thanks again; Eric

Always suspected the overages reported by Urchin was due to bots - thanks for confirming this Morgan |
