Default Recommended article word count?

What is the recommended word count for articles within a web site, and also articles written for publication (i.e., goarticles.com)? Or, is there a standard for this?

Great questions smuck;

I am not sure there is a "right answer". My high school english teacher used to tell us that essays should be like mini-skirts-Long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep it interesting!

Thanks Eric. Good point on the article. I agree, however, I should rephrase and ask what a search engine friendly length should be. Thanks on the avatar. It will probably change often. My next one is going to be what I look like when I get up in the morning (see attached).

Here are some sample Articles I submitted :

John Nazareno

here visit my ezine site ... my articles are from 500 words to about 1200 words..with around 750 the average I believe.

For websites I say you should have minimum 500 words for a good topic
but if you're in a small market and can't say specifically say things more than 300 words, then stick with that, don't overdo the articles.

check this one Green Valley it's a small un-incorporated area in my service area. I believe that's less than 150 words and says a lot about the community
